In the field of infrastructure, Singapore is regarded as the leading Asian infrastructure hub for developing, financing and implementing projects in the region. Companies that provide engineering services are instrumental in the development, design, construction and maintenance of industrial plants, infrastructure and buildings. The industry comprises Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms, engineering consultancies and specialist engineering services providers, with a good mix of multinational corporations as well as local players such as Surbana-Jurong and Meinhardt.
The engineering services industry currently employs about 37,000 people and accounts for about 1.2 per cent of GDP. Growth for the industry is expected to be 5 to 6% annually between now and 2020. The industry relies heavily on people and hence strengthening talent capabilities is a key priority. Our vision is for Singapore to be a global engineering services hub with the capabilities to solve tomorrow’s engineering challenges. Underlying this vision is our strategy to develop a pool of experienced engineering talent.
